Welcome to Howard Lam's Studio!

It is my belief that music is an avenue to humanity. When there is music, there are humans; when there are humans, there are cultures.  Music traces human's cultures and inherits the essence of humans. Music is an universal language to human beings. Without music, life would be less colorful. So let's add more colors to our lives by learning how to appreciate and make music.

In all instrumental playing, natural physical activity  should be stressed. It is much easier to enjoy music playing when one has good technical training. Therefore, my method of teaching traces its roots to the Anne Liva and Rosina Lhevinne school of technique, and is informed by teachings of Alfred Brendel, Leonard Shure, and Carola Grindea. This method can benefit students of any ages.

I have been drawn to teaching all types of students--kindergarten toddlers, elementary school children, high school students,  adult amateurs, and even people with disabilities whom are passionate about playing the piano.

It is my strong belief that a student's ability to make music is directly related to his/her ability to learn the skill of playing the instrument. The more technical ability a student has, the better musical instincts will be "squeezed", and the more enjoyable all playing will be.
